Translantau 100? It is one of the most popular ultra in Hong Kong. Hundred means kilometres (or just 50 or less if you don’t dare) with cumulative elevation gain of 5800 meters (I think even the meters down will hurt lot) on great scenic trails over all Lantau island.
My friend Steven from GEmVG created very interesting Google Earth Tour for TransLantau 100 (btw, I suggest some music for, do you like?). Click on picture below and enjoy it interactive tour (press play there). Here is link to GEmVG with more running and no-running Google Earth Tours : http://marathon.gemvg.com/
Ups, we are going there next week. Eva will help with organize Translantau 100 and gain valuable experiences and I will run it, ups. Start will be before midnight of Friday and you have to be back in finish on Silvermine Beach, Mui Wo within 32 hours.
It will be mine second hundred and first race over night, ups. Frankly, I don’t know how to prepare for it. Yes, some apparel and two lights and definitely will take my favourite shoes Inov8 Race Ultra 290 (read: Inov8 Race Ultra 290 – REVIEW from trail runner in Taiwan), and probably Compressport shorts for the no soft trail in HK. some superfood Chia bars from Runivore (soon in our shop), but how to prepare for course mentally? No idea.
First guy back was Jeremy Ritcey after 13 hours in 2014, record keep Samir Tamang 12h 19m from Nepal. My friend Yujui finished on very good 54th place last year, but it took him exactly 20 hours, ups. Lucky guy, he could sleep second night. But what’s about runners over 24 hours? Two nights no sleep? I hope I can manage finish Saturday afternoon, I hope I can manage to finish even. Many strong runners will join in 2015, lets see who will win, who will survive. For example vegan ultra runner Vlad Ixel, one of the black hourse for this year (on picture with race director Clement Dumont).
Maybe good food will help, organizers do really well and prepare indeed banquets in check points on 12, 22, 34, 45, 57, 69, 74, 85, 95, 100th kilometer. Coffee, tea, soup, peanut butter, Nutella, banana, oranges, cup noodles, ham, cheese, candies, crackers, dry fruits, three time gels… I hope will help me overcome this distance with many steep ascent and descent. I hope will also enjoy sun rise at the morning, but will still be far from last biggest Lantau peak on 70th kilometer.
Trail god bless all participants and wish no big problems during organization. Ok, let’s see. We will inform you here or on Facebook. Now enjoy the Google Earth Tour of TransLantau 100 from view of bird.
